Thu Mar 20 07:07:28 UTC 2025: **Telangana Ranks Fourth Nationally in Rural Development Program**
HYDERABAD, March 20, 2025 – Telangana has achieved a significant milestone in rural development, securing the fourth position nationwide in the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM). According to a January 25, 2025 assessment by the Ministry of Rural Development, the state scored 91.87 out of 100.
The SPMRM, a flagship program aimed at bridging the rural-urban divide, focuses on developing 300 clusters of villages across India. Telangana’s success is attributed to its commitment to developing 17 clusters, both tribal and non-tribal, with an investment of ₹1885.11 crores. At least 70% of this investment leverages existing Central and State government schemes, supplemented by Critical Gap Funding (CGF) from the Ministry.
These clusters encompass various initiatives designed to boost agriculture, tourism, animal husbandry, and fisheries, along with improvements in education, healthcare, sanitation, and digital infrastructure. Telangana’s approach emphasizes administrative convergence, aligning Rurban clusters with existing Gram Panchayats for greater efficiency.
Tamil Nadu topped the national rankings with a score of 96.32, followed by Mizoram (93.96) and Uttar Pradesh (92.37). The SPMRM aims to develop rural areas while preserving their community life, providing access to urban-like amenities to villages with populations ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 depending on location.
