**Fiji –** In a shocking twist, Survivor Season 48 saw its first-ever tribe swap, resulting in a historic tribal council and the elimination of two players in episode four, “The House Party’s Over.” For the first time in the show’s history, all players dropped their original tribe buffs, creating three new tribes of five.
The Vula tribe, which had already faced elimination in the previous three episodes, once again found themselves at the bottom after losing the immunity challenge. This challenge involved heaving sandbags, navigating an obstacle course, and completing a puzzle.
The resulting tribal council saw intense maneuvering. Civa member Kyle Fraser played his hidden immunity idol, nullifying votes against him. Ultimately, it was Lagi member Thomas Krottinger who was sent home.
Adding to the drama, a special journey for three players from each tribe involved a dice game that could either add or subtract votes at the next tribal council. This left Justin Pioppi, a Vula member, with no vote at his tribe’s subsequent council.
Another surprising development involved Mary Zheng’s successful use of her “shot in the dark,” which granted her immunity. This left only Cedrek McFadden and Sai Hughley to vote, resulting in a double tie, with Justin and Sai each receiving one vote. Due to the loss of votes by Justin and Mary, the unprecedented situation left Cedrek as the sole decider. He ultimately sent Justin home, marking the third consecutive Vula member eliminated.
The episode highlights the unprecedented nature of the season with the tribe swap, leading to intense strategic gameplay and unpredictable eliminations. The season continues Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
