Kuala Lumpur, March 20, 2025 – Eleven years after Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished, the Malaysian government has approved a renewed search for the missing Boeing 777. The search will be conducted by Ocean Infinity, a Texas-based marine robotics company, under a “no-find, no-fee” agreement. The company will receive $70 million only if wreckage is discovered.
The new search will focus on a 15,000-square-kilometer area in the southern Indian Ocean, identified as the most likely crash site based on new data analysis. Ocean Infinity, which conducted a fruitless search in 2018, claims improved technology will increase the chances of success. They have already deployed a search vessel to the area, targeting the January-April window for optimal search conditions.
Flight MH370, carrying 239 passengers, disappeared from radar on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. While debris has been found on the east African coast and in the Indian Ocean, previous large-scale searches failed to locate the main wreckage.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated the government’s commitment to finding closure for the families of the victims. A formal contract with Ocean Infinity is expected to be signed shortly. The search represents renewed hope for resolving one of aviation’s most enduring mysteries.
