Thu Mar 20 10:43:31 UTC 2025: ## Former Formula 1 Team Owner Eddie Jordan Dies at 76

**Shanghai, March 20, 2025** – Eddie Jordan, the charismatic former Formula 1 team owner and media personality, passed away peacefully at age 76 in Cape Town, South Africa, his family announced Thursday. The announcement, released through the London Irish rugby club where Jordan served as a patron, described him as leaving behind “tonnes of great memories.”

Jordan, often known as “EJ,” founded the Jordan Grand Prix team, which competed in Formula 1 from 1991 to 2005. His team is credited with giving seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher his F1 debut in 1991 after Jordan’s regular driver was jailed. Over the years, Jordan Grand Prix also featured notable drivers such as Damon Hill, Rubens Barrichello, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, achieving four race wins. After selling the team, it underwent several ownership changes and name alterations, ultimately becoming Aston Martin.

Beyond his racing accomplishments, Jordan was a beloved television pundit, known for his humor, outspoken opinions, and flamboyant style. His contributions to Formula 1 extended beyond the track; he managed renowned car designer Adrian Newey during Newey’s recent transition from Red Bull to Aston Martin.

Jordan’s death follows a battle with an aggressive form of cancer that spread from his bladder and prostate to his spine and pelvis. He publicly disclosed his diagnosis last year, using the opportunity to encourage listeners of his podcast to prioritize their health and undergo necessary screenings.

Tributes poured in from across the Formula 1 community. Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, praised Jordan’s “inexhaustible energy” and ability to make people smile. Flavio Briatore, a close friend and former head of Benetton, recalled fond memories and emphasized Jordan’s lasting impact on the sport. Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell lauded Jordan as a “one-off” and a “charismatic leader” whose vision laid the foundation for the team’s success.
