Wed Mar 19 19:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Meta’s $10 Billion Data Center Fuels Louisiana’s Economic Boom, Spurs Energy Investments

**BATON ROUGE, LA** – The announcement of Meta’s $10 billion AI-optimized data center in Richland Parish has sparked a wave of economic development and energy investment in Louisiana, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO Phillip May announced Monday. The project, which has already generated significant interest from other companies, is transforming the state’s economic narrative, May told the Press Club of Baton Rouge.

To meet the data center’s substantial energy demands, Entergy plans to construct three new natural gas-powered plants with the capability to utilize hydrogen and incorporate carbon capture technology. The company is also exploring the addition of two more power plants to address the needs of retiring facilities and overall economic growth, and is soliciting proposals from operators for both these plants and a separate 3,000-megawatt solar facility. The latter initiative responds to growing demand from industrial clients for clean energy.

May emphasized that while Meta will bear a significant portion of the cost of these new energy projects, the overall investments will improve service reliability for all Entergy customers. The company has also launched a five-year, 21,000-project plan to enhance grid resilience across the state, addressing challenges posed by Louisiana’s unique environment – including frequent lightning strikes, tropical storms, rapid tree growth, and unstable soil conditions. This grid modernization is crucial, May stressed, to attract further industrial investment to the state.
