**Bengaluru, March 20, 2025** – The Karnataka government will launch a month-long water conservation campaign culminating in a Cauvery aarti ceremony at Sankey Tank in Bengaluru on March 22, World Water Day, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced today. The event, he stressed, is a government initiative and not politically motivated, despite a legal challenge from some local BJP leaders.
Shivakumar stated that Sankey Tank was chosen after inspecting several locations, citing its history of hosting large public events, including Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations and an MLA’s birthday. The aarti, initially planned for the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam, has been relocated to coincide with the water conservation campaign.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about responsible water usage, addressing issues such as the misuse of drinking water for washing cars and watering plants. An oath-taking ceremony will be held as part of the initiative to curb water wastage. Shivakumar urged public participation and expressed confidence in defending the government’s position in court.
