KALABURAGI, March 18, 2025 – Former Supreme Court Judge Shivaraj Patil delivered a special lecture at Gulbarga University on Tuesday, urging young people to actively participate in nation-building by protecting their freedoms and upholding constitutional values. He emphasized the importance of combating “the cancers” of casteism, crime, and corruption, stating that the fight must begin at a personal level.

Patil highlighted the Vachanas of 12th-century reformer Basavanna and the writings of B.R. Ambedkar as sources of inspiration for upholding constitutional values. He recounted his involvement in drafting Article 371(J) of the Constitution, crediting veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and others for its passage.

The former judge also called on the government to address the 37,000 vacant posts in the Kalyana Karnataka region, arguing that employment is crucial for improving the economic and social well-being of the population. The event, presided over by the Director of the Institute of Kannada Studies, included a question-and-answer session with the audience.
