**Imphal, Manipur – March 19, 2025** – Six Supreme Court judges will visit relief camps in Manipur on March 22nd to provide legal and humanitarian aid to those affected by months of ethnic violence. The visit, part of a National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) outreach, coincides with the Manipur High Court’s duodecennial celebration.
Led by Justice B.R. Gavai, Executive Chairman of NALSA, the delegation includes Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, M.M. Sundresh, K.V. Viswanathan, and N. Kotiswar Singh. The judges will virtually inaugurate legal and medical services across the state, launching legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Ukhrul districts. Distribution of essential relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs) will also take place.
A team of 25 doctors from Chennai will conduct medical camps in the relief camps, while legal services camps will connect IDPs with government welfare programs. The Manipur State Legal Services Authority has already established 273 special legal aid clinics at relief camps, assisting IDPs with accessing government benefits, replacing lost documents, and obtaining medical aid.
The NALSA statement highlights the ongoing need for assistance, noting that nearly two years after the devastating violence of May 3, 2023, many remain displaced. The visit underscores the continued impact of the conflict and the Supreme Court’s commitment to supporting affected communities.
