**Tulsa, OK – March 18, 2025** – Tara Fleming, 29, a Missouri woman featured in an upcoming Netflix documentary about the devastating 2011 Joplin tornado, has gone missing. Fleming’s disappearance was reported by her former boyfriend, Steven Weersing, 30, who also appears in the documentary, *The Twister: Caught in the Storm*, set to premiere on Netflix Wednesday.
Weersing, who survived the tornado with severe injuries, including a flesh-eating infection, filed a missing person’s report on Monday. He stated that he received a call indicating Fleming was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, robbed of her phone, purse, and car, and frightened. He expressed concern over inconsistencies in accounts from individuals who last saw Fleming. The Tulsa Police Department confirmed receiving the report but offered no further details.
Fleming and Weersing’s relationship, forged in the aftermath of the tornado that killed 158 and injured over 1,000, is a central part of the documentary. While the two later separated, their story focuses on their shared experience surviving the deadly storm. The documentary includes footage of the tornado’s impact on Joplin.
Although Weersing later reported that Fleming had been found safe but stranded in Tulsa needing assistance to return to Joplin, the initial disappearance sparked considerable concern, especially given its proximity to the documentary’s release. Authorities have not commented on the circumstances of her reappearance. The Netflix documentary is unrelated to her disappearance.
