**Srivilliputtur, Tamil Nadu, March 18, 2025** – The annual “Pookkuzhi” festival at the Periya Mariamman Temple in Srivilliputtur commenced on Tuesday with a traditional flag hoisting ceremony. This year’s festival, held on the Amavasai day of the Tamil month Panguni, is expected to draw thousands of devotees from across the region for the highlight event: fire-walking. Following the flag hoisting, special pujas and deeparathanas were performed. The 11-day festival will feature daily processions of the presiding deity, Mariamman.
