Tue Mar 18 19:54:24 UTC 2025: ## Vyttila Mobility Hub’s Delayed Development Sparks Concerns
**Kochi, March 19, 2025** – The Vyttila Mobility Hub, Kerala’s flagship intermodal transport center, is facing significant delays in its development, causing traffic congestion and public frustration. Over a decade after the first phase of the bus terminal opened, the ₹590-crore second phase remains stalled.
The Vyttila Mobility Hub Society (VMHS), responsible for managing the 25-acre facility, cites funding shortages and staff deficiencies as major hurdles. The society’s inability to secure a loan, hampered by a pending re-registration as a company, further compounds the problem. Large portions of the land remain underutilized, contributing to traffic bottlenecks as inter-state buses park illegally at the congested Vyttila Junction.
In response to public criticism, VMHS has initiated a ₹10-crore renovation project for the existing bus terminal, including the resurfacing of pavements. This work, entrusted to the Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), also includes developing a 5.5-acre park featuring a sculpture gallery and food stalls. A traffic rerouting plan is also underway. While terminal renovations are expected to conclude by May, the park’s completion is anticipated a month later. However, these smaller-scale projects do little to address the larger, long-delayed expansion plans for the hub.
