**Chennai, March 18, 2025** – The SRM College of Arts and Science, in collaboration with The Hindu and Shankar IAS Academy, recently held a meet for final-year students aspiring to take the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam.
G. Thamizhan Valavan, Additional Director of the National Academy of Customs, addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of daily newspaper reading for staying abreast of current affairs crucial for the preliminary stage of the exam. He advised students to review past question papers to understand the exam pattern and necessary subject matter. Valavan shared his personal journey, highlighting his path from a village background to veterinary college and ultimately, success in the UPSC exam, securing a position in the Indian Revenue Services (IRS).
R. Vasudeva Raj, Principal of SRM Arts and Science College, and Karthikeyan, a mentor from Shankar IAS Academy, also spoke at the event.
