**Buenos Aires, Argentina** – The groups for the 2025 Copa Libertadores have been drawn, pitting several Argentine teams against strong opponents from across South America. The draw, which also included the honoring of legendary figures Francisco “Pancho” Sá and Sebastián Battaglia, revealed a challenging road ahead for Argentine clubs.
Vélez Sarsfield will face a tough test in Group H alongside Peñarol (URU), Olimpia (PAR), and San Antonio Bulo Bulo (BOL). Racing Club, in Group E, will battle Atlético Bucaramanga (COL), Colo Colo (CHI), and Fortaleza (BRA). Central Córdoba (ARG) finds itself in Group C with Brazilian giants Flamengo, Liga de Quito (ECU), and Deportivo Táchira (VEN). Talleres de Córdoba (ARG) is in Group D with São Paulo (BRA), Libertad (PAR), and Alianza Lima (PER).
River Plate, a seeded team, will compete in Group B against Independiente del Valle (ECU), Universitario (PER), and Universidad de Chile. Estudiantes de La Plata (ARG) joins Group A with defending champion Botafogo (BRA), along with Universidad de Chile and Carabobo (VEN).
The seeded teams for each group are: Botafogo (Group A), River Plate (Group B), Flamengo (Group C), São Paulo (Group D), Racing (Group E), Nacional (URU, Group F), Palmeiras (Group G), and Peñarol (Group H).
The ceremony also recognized Francisco “Pancho” Sá, a six-time Libertadores champion (four with Independiente, two with Boca Juniors), who described the tournament as “a girlfriend everyone wants.” Sebastián Battaglia, a four-time Libertadores winner with Boca Juniors, also received a commemorative award.
