**Hubballi, March 18, 2025** – J.V. Goud, a renowned farm scientist, educator, and the inaugural Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, passed away on Monday at the age of 88. Dr. Goud, born in Ballari district, made significant contributions to Indian agriculture throughout his career.

After graduating from UAS Bengaluru and completing his PhD and postdoctoral studies at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi under the guidance of M.S. Swaminathan, he dedicated his life to teaching, research, and administration. His tenure as Vice-Chancellor of UAS Dharwad from 1986 to 1989 was instrumental in establishing the university as a leading institution in agricultural sciences.

Dr. Goud authored over 300 research papers and developed new varieties of several crops, including sorghum, paddy, setaria, cowpea, chilli, and sugarcane. He also served on numerous national-level committees focused on agricultural research, teaching, and extension.

Hundreds of students, fellow scientists, and community members paid their respects at his funeral on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son. His legacy as a pioneer in Indian agricultural research and education will continue to inspire future generations.
