Tue Mar 18 15:42:18 UTC 2025: ## Tirunelveli Corporation Faces Public Outcry Over Delays and Neglect
**TIRUNELVELI, March 18, 2025** – The Tirunelveli Corporation faced a barrage of public complaints at a grievance redressal meeting on Tuesday, highlighting issues ranging from delayed infrastructure projects to inadequate sanitation and sewage management.
A key concern raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was the three-year delay in the inauguration of a completed urban health centre (UHC) in Malaiyaalamedu. BJP’s Tirunelveli west zone secretary, S. Sivasubramanian, pointed out that the building, despite its completion, remains unopened due to missing doors, allowing stray animals to shelter within. He urged for immediate inauguration and provision of necessary medical facilities. Further, the BJP also demanded the repair of a damaged culvert near Kapur Primary School.
Residents of the KTC/SETC Employees’ Colony complained about uncollected garbage and poorly repaired roads following underground drainage work, citing mosquito breeding and accident risks. Roadside vendors at Tirunelveli Junction pleaded for the reinstatement of their businesses, claiming they were unfairly evicted despite being long-term tenants and not obstructing traffic.
Individual petitions included a farmer, K. Jayalakhmi, reporting sewage flooding her farmland, rendering it unusable, and a councillor, M.S. Mohideen Abdul Khader, requesting a shed and hand pump for a cremation ground. Residents of Karaiyiruppu also petitioned for road improvements, water supply, and drainage solutions. Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju received all petitions during the meeting.
