Mon Mar 17 22:10:00 UTC 2025: **Amazon Considers Spinning Off Indian Entity for Local Listing**

**MUMBAI, March 17, 2025** – E-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly exploring the possibility of spinning off its Indian operations and listing the entity on the Indian stock exchange. Sources close to the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Amazon has initiated discussions with several Indian investment banks and JP Morgan. The move is reportedly driven by a desire to circumvent data localization regulations and adopt the inventory-based model, currently restricted to domestic companies in India. This model allows for faster deliveries and greater control over branding and inventory.

While Amazon currently holds the second-largest market share in India after Flipkart, it has faced challenges in recent years, losing ground to its competitor and facing increased competition from companies like Meesho and quick-commerce players. A spokesperson for Amazon declined to comment on the speculation.

The potential spin-off could allow Amazon to attract more domestic investors and eventually transition to majority domestic ownership. This strategy comes months after a leadership change in Amazon’s Indian operations.

Interestingly, Amazon’s main competitor, Flipkart, is also considering an IPO in the next 12-15 months, although reports suggest potential delays. The timing and success of both potential listings remain uncertain.
