VIJAYAWADA, March 18, 2025 – The All India Students Federation (AISF) is protesting the Andhra Pradesh Department of Social Welfare’s decision to close the IIT Medical Academy in Eedupugallu, Krishna district. The closure leaves approximately 600 first-year students facing an uncertain future.
AISF state vice-president M. Sai Kumar stated that students and their parents have been protesting the abrupt closure, arguing that relocation to another IIT training campus is insufficient. They are demanding the academy remain open at its current location for at least the remainder of the academic year. The federation has threatened further protests if their demands are not met.
The AISF also voiced support for veterinary students who have been protesting for 44 days for a pay increase, from ₹7,000 to ₹25,000. While the government increased the honorarium to ₹10,500, the AISF considers this inadequate and calls for parity with MBBS, AYUSH, and Ayurveda students.
