Mon Mar 17 14:29:53 UTC 2025: ## Unfulfilled Ministerial Assurances in Indian Parliament Spark Debate

**New Delhi, March 17, 2025** – A significant discrepancy regarding the fulfillment of ministerial assurances in the Indian Parliament has ignited a debate in the Rajya Sabha. According to information presented by the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, nearly 75% of assurances made by Union Ministers in 2024 remain unfulfilled.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh highlighted that of 160 assurances given, only 39 were completed, leaving 119 pending. This directly contradicts claims by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who asserted that the Online Assurances Monitoring System (OAMS), launched in 2018, has resolved 99% of requests. Mr. Rijiju stated that all assurances should be honored within three months, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling parliamentary commitments.

However, Mr. Singh pointed to a discrepancy between the Minister’s statement and data on the OAMS website, which reportedly indicates 1,324 pending assurances. Minister Rijiju responded that he would investigate the conflicting data. He further clarified that 547 assurances are pending in the Rajya Sabha and 764 in the Lok Sabha.

Minister of State L. Murugan defended the OAMS, describing it as a digital platform designed to track, monitor, and ensure the fulfillment of ministerial assurances. He highlighted the system’s features for enhanced accountability and transparency.

The debate underscores concerns about the effectiveness of the OAMS in upholding parliamentary accountability and raises questions about the accuracy of reported fulfillment rates of ministerial promises.
