**Srinagar, March 17, 2025** – Kashmir Zone Police have launched an inquiry into the conduct of a police officer following the emergence of a video appearing to show him kicking a woman protester in Kulgam district. The video, which circulated on social media, depicts the incident that occurred on Sunday, March 16th.
The police statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledged the allegations and stated that the Deputy Inspector General of South Kashmir Range will investigate and submit a report within 10 days.
The protests in Kulgam erupted following the discovery of the body of a young man in a local water body. This was the second body recovered from the same stream in three days, both belonging to individuals missing since last month. A search for a third missing person is ongoing.
PDP leader Iltija Mufti condemned the officer’s actions, calling them “shocking & unbecoming” and highlighting the erosion of public trust caused by such behavior. She urged a thorough investigation into the incident.
