**Hyderabad, March 17, 2025** – Punjagutta police have launched an investigation into the proliferation of illegal online betting applications following a complaint alleging widespread use and financial distress among users.
The complaint, filed by a 40-year-old private employee, Vinay Vangala, highlights the aggressive online promotion of these apps, targeting young adults and the general public. Vangala, who attends training classes in Ameerpet, noted the frequent discussion of these apps among fellow students on social media. He claims the apps are easily accessible and contributing to financial hardship. While Vangala himself considered using one of the apps, he was dissuaded by his family.
The complaint details several influencers allegedly promoting the platforms, providing their social media handles and app names. It alleges transactions worth thousands of crores have been facilitated through these apps and urges swift action to curb their spread. Vangala has offered to assist in the investigation.
Police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Gaming Act, and the IT Act. The investigation is ongoing.
