**HONG KONG, March 17, 2024** – Li Zhaoji, founder of Henderson Land Development and known as “Fourth Uncle,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family this evening at the age of 97. The announcement was made by Henderson Land Development.

Li, born in 1928 in Guangdong, China, built his business empire from humble beginnings, establishing Henderson Land in 1976. His company developed iconic Hong Kong landmarks, including the International Finance Centre. He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal by the Hong Kong government in 2007 for his significant contributions to society. Beyond his business acumen, Li was known for his philanthropy, donating billions of Hong Kong dollars to education and charitable causes over the years, including establishing the Pei Hua Education Fund in 1982. He also garnered international recognition, ranking fourth on Forbes’ list of the world’s wealthiest individuals in 1996.

Li’s personal life also drew significant media attention. His son, Li Ka-shing Jr.’s, lavish wedding to actress Cecilia Cheung was dubbed a “billion-dollar fairytale” and is still talked about today. The wedding, reportedly costing over HK$700 million, was notable for its extravagance.
