Sat Mar 15 16:45:27 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Seniors Rediscover Joy Through Wise Owl Club

**CHENNAI, March 15, 2025** – A vibrant group of senior citizens in Chennai is proving that age is no barrier to fun and social connection. The Wise Owl Club, founded by sisters Jayanthi Sekhar and Pushya Sitaraman, provides a unique platform for recreational activities, fostering camaraderie and combating loneliness among its members.

The club, operating under the Wise Owl Foundation, was established in October 2023 to offer seniors a diverse range of activities outside of traditional senior centers. Recent gatherings have included lively sessions of traditional South Indian games like pallanguzhi and seven stones, bringing back cherished memories for participants. A recent meetup in Mylapore, featuring over 20 attendees, showcased the club’s engaging approach.

With 40 members and growing, the Wise Owl Club offers a flexible structure. Meetings are held at members’ homes or other convenient locations, avoiding a fixed schedule. The club’s workshops are themed around books, gardening, theatre, creative arts, games, health, and travel, catering to various interests. Many activities focus on nostalgia, with one session leading to two participants rediscovering their shared school history and a mutual teacher.

While some workshops involve expert instructors, members often volunteer their skills and knowledge. The club currently hosts two activities per month, one online (free) and one in-person (with a nominal fee for materials). The recent Mylapore gathering was a free event designed to attract new members. The club also extends its activities to a local old age home, sharing the benefits of their programs with a wider community. The sisters aim to expand these outreach programs this year. The Wise Owl Club stands as a testament to the power of community and the enduring zest for life among senior citizens.
