**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – March 16, 2025** – G. Jayalakshmi, Chief Commissioner of Land Administration and Special Officer of NTR District, stressed the importance of reducing single-use plastic consumption during a Swachh Andhra-Swarnandhra program in Jupudi on Saturday. She highlighted the health risks associated with microplastics, linking them to cancer and urging citizens to adopt eco-friendly alternatives.
The program, focused this month on banning single-use plastics, involved a visit to a “Waste to Wealth” center, tree planting, and a Grama Sabha educating villagers about the environmental and health consequences of plastic waste. District Collector G. Lakshmisha reinforced these points, emphasizing the persistence of microplastics in the environment and encouraging the use of jute and cloth bags. Officials and students also conducted an awareness rally, visiting local shops to promote reusable bags. The initiative aims to raise public awareness and encourage a shift towards sustainable practices.
