Sat Mar 15 18:29:05 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Doctors Urge Permanent Appointments in Urban Health Centers
**Chennai, March 16, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Resident Doctors Association (TNRDA) is calling on the state government to fill doctor and nurse vacancies in newly established Urban Health and Wellness Centers (UHWCs) through permanent, rather than contractual, appointments.
While commending the government’s initiative to bolster urban healthcare with 208 additional UHWCs, the TNRDA expressed concerns over the use of short-term contracts. The association argues that contract-based employment leads to high staff turnover, disrupting patient care and creating salary inequities compared to permanent positions.
The TNRDA specifically urged the government to prioritize candidates who passed the 2025 Medical Services Recruitment Board exam and completed the certificate verification process for permanent appointments. General Secretary M. Keerthy Varman stated that the state should avoid contractual employment to ensure workforce stability and provide fair compensation and career progression for healthcare workers.
