**Indore, MP:** A three-hour protest by lawyers in Indore on Saturday brought the city’s High Court square to a standstill, causing significant traffic disruption and leading to the suspension of five police personnel. The demonstration stemmed from a Holi day altercation involving a lawyer, Arvind Jain, and a local resident, Raju Gaur.
The initial incident saw Jain’s sons allegedly assaulting Gaur after a dispute over coloured powder thrown by children. Police intervened, using lathi charges to disperse the crowd, an action that sparked outrage among the legal community.
Lawyers, alleging excessive force against Jain, took to the streets on Saturday, demanding FIRs against the involved officers. The protest involved surrounding a police vehicle, raising slogans, and blocking the High Court square, causing extensive traffic jams and reportedly resulting in some civilians being assaulted.
The protest escalated to the point of halting the vehicle of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 4, Anand Yadav. In response to the escalating situation, Additional DCP Amarendra Singh ordered a preliminary inquiry and suspended five police personnel. Following this action, the lawyers called off their demonstration.
While Additional DCP Singh confirmed the preliminary investigation and assured disciplinary action against any guilty officers, he declined to comment on reports of a police officer being assaulted during the initial incident. SDM Roshan Rai acknowledged the ongoing dispute and assured that the administration is working towards a resolution. The investigation into the alleged assault on the police officer is ongoing.
