THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, March 16, 2025 – The Indian Oil Corporation’s Deputy General Manager (Sales), Alex Mathew, was arrested on Saturday night in Thiruvananthapuram on charges of bribery. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) took Mr. Mathew into custody following a complaint by a gas agency owner, Manoj, who alleged that Mr. Mathew demanded a ₹10 lakh bribe to prevent the transfer of his agency’s customers to other agencies.
Mr. Mathew was apprehended while allegedly receiving a ₹2 lakh installment of the bribe at Manoj’s residence in Kowdiar. An additional ₹1 lakh in cash was seized from Mr. Mathew’s vehicle. Following the arrest, the VACB conducted a raid at Mr. Mathew’s home in Kadavanthra, Kochi. The investigation is ongoing.
