**COIMBATORE, March 15, 2025** – The State Highways Department in Coimbatore is poised to begin work on the second phase of the western bypass road project, following a ₹348 crore budget allocation announced on Friday. The department anticipates receiving administrative sanction shortly.
The second phase will add 12.5 km to the bypass, extending it to Kanuvai. This follows the successful first phase, currently 60% complete, which involves the development of an 11.8 km four-lane road from Madukkarai to Madhampatti, slated for completion by August. Land acquisition for the second phase is nearly finalized, and the department has even initiated land acquisition for a third phase.
Upon receiving administrative sanction, the department will issue tenders to select a contractor for the second phase construction.
