**Coimbatore, March 16, 2025** – A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, was arrested after attempting to evade authorities by jumping into Perur lake. Vetrivel (35), VAO of Madhuvarayapuram, allegedly received a ₹5,000 bribe from a farmer, Krishnasamy, in exchange for a legal heir certificate.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) had set a trap using chemically treated currency notes. Upon realizing he was being pursued, Vetrivel fled on his two-wheeler and threw the money into the lake before jumping in himself. While some of the currency was recovered, Vetrivel was apprehended by the DVAC team and arrested after questioning at the Perur Tahsildar’s office. The incident highlights ongoing corruption concerns within local government administration.
