Sat Mar 15 15:50:45 UTC 2025: **Karnataka Congress Seeks Winnable Women Candidates for 2028 Elections**

Bengaluru, March 15, 2025 – With the upcoming implementation of a law reserving one-third of Assembly seats for women, Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar has called on the Mahila Congress to identify and prepare a strong slate of female candidates for the 2028 State Legislative Assembly elections. This means finding 74 winnable candidates out of 224 constituencies.

Addressing party workers at an International Women’s Day event, Shivakumar emphasized the need to move beyond simply selecting the wives and daughters of current MLAs and MPs. He urged party members to actively work towards becoming candidates themselves. He also highlighted the five guarantee schemes implemented by the Congress government, emphasizing their benefits for women.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the Karnataka Mahila Congress’s performance, Shivakumar appealed for greater dedication and engagement from women members, urging them to actively register beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme as Congress members and leverage these connections to boost the party’s standing, particularly in coastal regions where it has historically struggled. He also announced plans to celebrate the Congress government’s two-year anniversary on May 20th with state-wide events.

The event also included a felicitation of Ananya Prasad, who recently completed a solo row across the Atlantic Ocean. Several prominent party leaders, including Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar and MP G.C. Chandrashekar, were present.
