Sat Mar 15 18:13:25 UTC 2025: ## Dharwad Basks in Colourful Holi Celebrations Despite Heat

**DHARWAD, March 15, 2025** – Despite soaring temperatures, the city of Dharwad erupted in a vibrant display of Holi celebrations on Saturday. Thousands participated in the festivities, which began with the traditional burning of Kamanna (Lord Manmatha) effigies at approximately 150 locations across the city.

Following the ritual, the streets filled with revelers engaging in playful colour throwing and dancing. While minor verbal altercations occurred amongst some youths, the overall celebrations remained peaceful, thanks to the elaborate security measures implemented by local police, including restrictions on vehicular traffic in certain areas.

Several organizations, backed by political leaders and businessmen, organized large-scale events featuring rain dances and music at various locations including Gandhi Chowk, Kempgeri, Gandhi Nagar, Saptapur, LIC Circle, and Shivaji Circle. The MLA Arvind Bellad Fans’ Association’s Holi celebration at LIC Circle, complete with a rain dance, was a particular highlight.

Traditional games like curd pot-breaking (Dahi Handi) also drew enthusiastic participation, with youth forming human pyramids to reach and break the pots. A folk song and ‘halige’ (traditional percussion instrument) competition on Subhas Road added to the cultural richness of the day.

While many shops and food stalls remained closed, bakeries and provision stores saw brisk business in the afternoon. Fruit vendors also reported increased sales as revelers purchased fruits to refresh themselves. Despite a liquor ban, some participants were observed consuming alcohol.

By evening, many of Dharwad’s roads were awash with the myriad colours of the festival, marking a successful and vibrant Holi celebration.
