Sun Mar 16 00:50:00 UTC 2025: **Curry Makes NBA History, Hits 4,000th Career Three-Pointer**
SAN FRANCISCO – Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry etched his name in NBA history Thursday night, becoming the first player to ever make 4,000 three-pointers. The milestone shot, a 28-footer from the right wing, came during a chaotic scramble for a loose ball in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 130-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center.
Curry, who entered the game needing two three-pointers, hit his first early in the game. The final three-pointer, however, came after a turnover and a scramble for the ball, a fitting end considering many of Curry’s record-breaking shots have been born from such situations, as he explained to ESPN. The crowd erupted in a prolonged roar upon seeing the record-breaking shot.
The achievement comes just over two years after Curry surpassed Ray Allen’s previous record of 2,973 three-pointers. The milestone was further emphasized by Curry’s own admission that reaching 4,000 was “beyond his wildest dreams.”
The Warriors’ effort to get Curry his historic shot even led to some anxious moments, as noted by Draymond Green, who acknowledged the team’s pressure to facilitate the moment resulted in some costly turnovers.
The game also saw the return of Jonathan Kuminga, who contributed 18 points in 20 minutes, bolstering the team’s bench. The Warriors, now winners of six straight, sit at 13-1 with recent trade acquisition Jimmy Butler in the lineup.
Curry, who turns 37 on Friday, reflected on the milestone and his future, expressing excitement about the team’s renewed energy following a rough patch and stating that his ability to continue adding to his record will depend on the health of his knees. Coach Steve Kerr, jokingly, suggested Curry might even reach 5,000 three-pointers.
