HYDERABAD, INDIA – Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched a scathing attack on his predecessor and opposition leader K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) Saturday, accusing him of neglecting his duties and challenging him to a debate on the state’s water allocation issues. Reddy highlighted KCR’s infrequent attendance at assembly sessions – only twice in the past 15 months – while drawing a salary of over Rs 57 lakh. He criticized KCR for allegedly prioritizing self-preservation over the needs of the people.

Reddy also defended his frequent trips to Delhi, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong Centre-state relationship. He cited his successful efforts in securing defense land for Hyderabad and his pursuit of hosting the 2036 Olympics. His recent use of the term “elder brother” to refer to Prime Minister Modi, which drew criticism from the BRS, was defended as a reflection of his commitment to inter-state cooperation.

The Chief Minister further condemned the recent arrest of two online journalists for allegedly spreading defamatory content against him and the Congress government. He vowed to take stringent action against those engaging in such activities, suggesting the creation of a registry of legitimate journalists to differentiate them from those spreading misinformation.

Reddy also levelled serious allegations against KCR and his son, KT Rama Rao, accusing them of insensitive reactions to tragedies and of using derogatory language on social media. He challenged KCR to reign in his children’s behavior, which he described as an attempt to gain political advantage by psychologically harming opponents.

Reddy revealed that the Congress government has spent a significant portion of its loan amount (Rs 1,53,359 crore) repaying debts incurred by the previous BRS administration. He also pledged to crack down on the drug menace, hinting at potential revelations involving Dubai connections.

The BRS party boycotted Reddy’s speech, with party members accusing him of making derogatory remarks against KCR and failing to deliver on election promises. The escalating tensions between the two parties promise a turbulent political climate in Telangana.
