Sat Mar 15 16:40:29 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru’s Weekend Getaway Trend Shifts Towards Experiential Farm Tourism

**Bengaluru, March 15, 2025** – A growing number of Bengaluru residents are trading traditional resort getaways for experiential tourism on farms and nurseries, marking a significant shift in weekend travel preferences. This trend, observed by industry stakeholders and the Karnataka Tourism Department, reflects a post-pandemic interest in understanding food origins and agricultural processes.

Several farms in and around Bengaluru are capitalizing on this burgeoning interest, offering visitors hands-on experiences such as sowing, harvesting, and foraging for edible and medicinal plants. Farm owners report a significant increase in visitors, including families, friend groups, and school children, with some offering overnight stays alongside day trips.

Vidya Rao, a retired government employee, described a recent farm visit as a nostalgic experience, highlighting the appeal of these unique getaways for groups of friends. Srivathsa Govindaraju, owner of Chiguru Ecospace, attributed the trend to a desire for authentic, hands-on experiences not typically found in resorts.

The Karnataka Tourism Policy 2025-2029 prioritizes agricultural tourism, and the department is working to identify and support farms offering such experiences. However, stakeholders highlight the need for policy adjustments, specifically concerning land-use regulations that currently require conversion of agricultural land for tourism purposes. They advocate for modifications to better support the growth of this increasingly popular sector. The department is expected to release detailed guidelines shortly.
