Sat Mar 15 20:03:20 UTC 2025: ## Pope Francis’ Hospital Stay Enters Fifth Week, Recovery Progressing

**Vatican City** – Pope Francis is continuing his recovery from double pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli University Hospital, entering his fifth week of treatment. While his condition remains complex due to his age and pre-existing health issues, the Vatican issued a positive update on Saturday, stating that the 88-year-old pontiff is in stable condition and showing continued progress.

Initially admitted on February 14th, the Pope experienced a challenging first three weeks marked by respiratory crises, mild kidney failure, and a severe coughing fit. However, his condition has since stabilized, and he is gradually reducing his reliance on nighttime mechanical ventilation. Doctors have confirmed that he is no longer in critical condition, though his age, limited mobility, and a prior lung condition continue to present complexities.

Despite his hospitalization, Pope Francis remains active in his papal duties. Last week he approved a three-year plan for implementing reforms aimed at modernizing the Catholic Church. This week, he participated in Lenten spiritual exercises from the hospital. On the 12th anniversary of his papacy, he received well wishes and a celebratory cake.

While the Pope has largely remained out of public view, he recently released a recorded audio message thanking well-wishers for their prayers. The traditional Sunday blessing from St. Peter’s Square has been delivered via text message for the past four weeks. The Vatican continues to offer regular updates on his progress.
