Fri Mar 14 21:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Tennessee Vols Duo on Verge of Program History at SEC Tournament

**Nashville, TN** – Tennessee Volunteers basketball players Zakai Zeigler and Chaz Lanier head into the SEC Tournament this weekend within striking distance of program records. Zeigler, a senior point guard, needs only four assists to surpass Rodney Woods’ single-season record of 227, a feat highly likely to occur in Friday’s opening game. He also stands just 20 assists away from breaking Johnny Darden’s career assist record of 715. A deep postseason run would significantly improve his chances of achieving both milestones.

Meanwhile, Lanier, a super senior shooting guard, is pursuing Chris Lofton’s single-season three-pointer record. Lanier currently boasts 105 three-pointers, trailing Lofton’s top mark of 118. While breaking the record requires a hot streak and a deep tournament run, his chances increase significantly with three or four additional postseason wins.

Both players received All-SEC honors this week. Coaches selected Zeigler for the first team and Lanier for the second, while the AP reversed these placements. Zeigler also earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, and Lanier was named Newcomer of the Year. Their recent Sporting News All-American selections mark the first time two Tennessee teammates have achieved this honor in the same season since Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld. The SEC Tournament offers a stage for these two Volunteers to etch their names further into Tennessee basketball history.
