Sat Mar 15 14:14:05 UTC 2025: ## Palayamkottai Improves Road Safety with New Roundabouts
**TIRUNELVELI, March 15, 2025** – To combat a high number of accidents, Tirunelveli City police are constructing traffic circles at two more intersections in Palayamkottai. Three roundabouts have already been successfully implemented at busy junctions, significantly reducing accidents despite the absence of traffic signals. The success of these initial roundabouts, which necessitated road widening and removal of encroachments, prompted the creation of two more.
Construction is underway at the NGO Colony intersection and the Reddiyarpatti Road-Thiruvananthapuram Highway junction. However, some issues remain. Undulations around the recently completed roundabout on the South Bypass Road – Thiruvananthapuram Highway junction are causing accidents, and the newly widened areas near the NGO Colony and Reddiyarpatti roundabouts require blacktopping to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Local resident Mohammed Faizal praised the initiative, highlighting the previous ineffectiveness of metal barricades which were frequently damaged or removed. He also raised concerns about inadequate street lighting on the Thiruvananthapuram Highway and urged the Tirunelveli Corporation to relocate a high-mast light at the Reddiyarpatti roundabout for better nighttime visibility. The lack of illumination on this stretch for the past three months, despite complaints, is a further concern. Motorists are hoping these improvements will enhance safety, particularly for two-wheeler riders.
