Sat Mar 15 11:42:41 UTC 2025: ## Pawar Urges Modi to Approve Equestrian Statues at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium

**New Delhi, March 15, 2025** – Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting permission to erect three equestrian statues at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium. The statues would honor prominent Maratha Empire figures: Peshwa Bajirao I, Mahadji Shinde, and Malharrao Holkar.

Pawar’s letter highlights the historical significance of the Talkatora Stadium area, noting its connection to 18th-century Maratha military campaigns against the Mughals. While an NGO initially planned to install busts, Pawar and others believe equestrian statues are a more fitting tribute to these historical figures.

The request requires the approval of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). Pawar seeks Prime Minister Modi’s intervention to secure the necessary permissions from the Delhi government and the NDMC. He also noted the recent 98th Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held at the stadium, inaugurated by the Prime Minister himself. Pawar expressed gratitude for Modi’s participation and highlighted the positive impact of the event.
