**Chennai, March 15, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government announced a ₹45,661 crore agriculture budget for 2025-26, focusing on enhancing farmers’ livelihoods and boosting agricultural growth. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted key initiatives including increased assistance for agricultural workers, the establishment of 1,000 Chief Minister’s Farmers Service Centres, and the introduction of new technologies. A special emphasis will be placed on horticulture, which is expected to become a key driver of growth.
The budget includes special packages for both delta and non-delta districts to expand cultivated areas. A new Agroforestry Policy will encourage the growth of commercially valuable trees. Furthermore, a Hill Farmers Development Scheme will promote the cultivation of minor millets, and new missions are planned to increase oilseeds and millet production. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin added that the budget also features the Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Research Grant to support agricultural innovation.
