Sat Mar 15 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi Brace for Severe Weather Saturday
**NEW ORLEANS, LA** – Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi are facing a significant severe weather threat this Saturday, with a Level 4 out of 5 (moderate) risk for the region. The National Weather Service warns that the threat, beginning late Saturday morning and lasting into the evening, includes the potential for intense, long-track tornadoes.
Supercell thunderstorms are expected to develop as temperatures rise. While the initial impact is anticipated in northwestern areas, the storm system will shift eastward throughout the day. Residents are urged to prepare severe weather plans and know their designated safe spaces.
Neighboring areas in Mississippi and Alabama have been upgraded to a Level 5 (high) risk, a designation not seen since March 2023 and 2021, both of which produced devastating EF-4 tornadoes and resulted in significant casualties. While South Louisiana’s Level 4 risk is also exceptionally rare and significant, the NWS emphasizes that not everyone will experience severe weather, but those who do could face potentially catastrophic conditions.
Authorities stress the importance of remaining weather-aware and seeking shelter immediately if a warning is issued. A Dense Fog Advisory is currently in effect. Forecasters predict a return to sunny skies and significantly improved conditions by Sunday, making for ideal parade weather.
