**Washington D.C.** – The Trump administration is reportedly considering a wide-ranging new travel ban affecting citizens from 41 countries, according to internal memos and sources familiar with the matter. The proposed restrictions, reminiscent of the president’s earlier travel bans, would involve full or partial visa suspensions based on concerns about national security and inadequate vetting procedures.

The plan, which is still subject to approval by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and could undergo changes, divides the 41 countries into three groups. Ten countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and North Korea, face potential full visa suspensions. A second group of five countries – Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan – could see partial suspensions impacting tourist, student, and other immigrant visas. Finally, 26 countries, including Pakistan and Bhutan, are flagged for potential partial suspensions if their governments fail to improve vetting processes within 60 days.

This initiative stems from President Trump’s January 20 executive order mandating heightened security screening for all foreign nationals entering the U.S. The order, part of a broader immigration crackdown, echoes Trump’s earlier travel bans, which faced legal challenges before ultimately being upheld by the Supreme Court. The president previewed this new action in an October 2023 speech, vowing to restrict travel from countries deemed security threats.
