Sat Mar 15 03:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Kraken Call Up High-Scoring Rookie Jani Nyman
**SEATTLE, WA** – The Seattle Kraken announced today the call-up of highly touted prospect Jani Nyman from their AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The 20-year-old Finnish forward, a second-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, will make his NHL debut Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadiens at Climate Pledge Arena.
Nyman, who leads all AHL rookies in goals with 26 in 55 games, has impressed Kraken management with his powerful shot and overall game development. He’s expected to see significant ice time, including on both the power play and at even strength.
“We won’t be easing him in,” said Firebirds head coach (and Kraken consultant) Dan Bylsma. “He’s a goal scorer, a heavy shot, big body guy in the offensive zone. He’s going to have a chance to do that. You will see him on the power play.”
Bylsma highlighted Nyman’s improved skating as a key factor in his call-up, noting a recent impressive goal scored from the neutral zone. “He’s really developed an all-around game,” Bylsma added. “You have to notice his shot; that’s a big part of him being an effective player.”
Nyman, who previously struggled with English, confidently addressed the media in his first NHL call-up interview. He expressed his excitement about the opportunity, noting his parents are flying in to witness his debut. He also spoke about the comfort of having fellow Finnish players Eeli Tolvanen and Kaapo Kakko as teammates in Seattle.
Nyman’s arrival is expected to bolster the Kraken’s offensive depth for their three-game homestand. His strong performance in the AHL positions him as a potential contender for the Calder Trophy, following in the footsteps of Kraken forward Tye Kartye, who won the award two years ago.
