Sat Mar 15 00:10:00 UTC 2025: **North Texas Mean Green to Face Tulsa in AAC Tournament Quarterfinals**
FORT WORTH, TX – The North Texas Mean Green men’s basketball team will face off against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Friday night in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament. The game, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Dickies Arena, pits the No. 2 seed Mean Green against the No. 10 seed Golden Hurricane.
North Texas previously defeated Tulsa 63-44 in their only regular-season meeting. However, Tulsa coach Eric Konkol anticipates a much closer contest, emphasizing the need for improved offensive play and a stronger defense against UNT’s Moulaye Sissoko, who scored a career-high 27 points in the previous matchup. Konkol noted the need to prevent Sissoko from receiving the ball deep and to vary defensive coverages.
UNT coach Ross Hodge acknowledges the challenges presented by the AAC tournament, highlighting the familiarity between teams after multiple meetings during the regular season. Despite a recent loss to Temple, the Mean Green are confident, bolstered by strong performances from players like Atin Wright (who recently scored a career-high 42 points) and the team’s overall experience. The Mean Green are looking to extend their winning streak and keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
Tulsa will rely on the scoring abilities of guards Dwon Odom and Keaston Willis, who are both averaging over 13 points per game. Odom stated the team’s intention to make amends for their previous loss.
The winner advances to the tournament semifinals.
