**QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill. –** A powerful storm system swept through the Quad Cities Friday night, causing widespread damage and leaving thousands without power. A First Alert Day was issued earlier in anticipation of severe weather, and the warnings proved accurate.

High winds, gusting up to 75-90 mph, and isolated tornadoes tore through the region. As of 11 p.m., MidAmerican Energy reported 8,660 customers without power, while Alliant Energy reported over 5,800 outages. ComEd also saw 554 customers affected.

The storm’s impact was evident across the area. KWQC crews observed downed trees and power lines in Lynn Center, Illinois, and Kewanee, Illinois. A tree fell on a house in Knox County, Illinois, and another damaged a home in Eldridge, Iowa. Further damage included a fallen sign at Memorial Stadium in Burlington, Iowa, and a road closure on 2nd Street and Highway 70 in Columbus Junction, Iowa, due to a downed tree. Numerous tornado warnings and watches were issued throughout the evening.

The storms moved out of the area after midnight, but the cleanup effort is expected to continue throughout the day. Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and report any damage to local officials.
