Sat Mar 15 14:35:02 UTC 2025: **Karnataka Police Officers Fined for Illegal Detention of National-Level Bike Racer**

Bengaluru, March 15, 2025 – A police sub-inspector and head constable in Karnataka have been ordered to pay a ₹1 lakh compensation for illegally detaining a national-level bike racer. The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) found Police Sub-Inspector Ruman Pasha and Head Constable R.K. Mulla guilty of dereliction of duty and misuse of power.

The incident occurred in December 2022 in Pulakeshi Nagar. Zubair Ali, the racer, and his brother were involved in a civil dispute and had obtained bail. Despite presenting the bail order at the police station, Zubair Ali was detained for several hours. This detention caused him to miss a flight to the US for a biking event.

The KSHRC’s decision was based on a complaint filed by Zubair Ali’s sister, who recorded the incident on her mobile phone. While the officers claimed ignorance of the bail order, the commission rejected their explanation, stating their actions constituted an overreaction and a disregard for the court’s decision.

The Home Department has been directed to recover the compensation amount from the officers’ salaries and initiate disciplinary action against them. A report on the actions taken is expected within a month.
