NANDYALA, Andhra Pradesh – A large-scale cleanliness initiative, “Swarnandhra-Swachh Andhra,” swept across Kurnool, Nandyal, and Anantapur districts on Saturday as part of the Andhra Pradesh state government’s commitment to monthly clean-up drives.
The initiative, held on the third Saturday of the month, saw participation from government officials, police, and the public. In Nandyal, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand launched a rally, emphasizing the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. He announced plans to revitalize Chinna Cheruvu lake area, including garbage removal and improvements to the walking track. Furthermore, the program aims to promote plastic reuse.
In Kurnool, District in-charge officer Kantilal Dande led a campaign urging citizens to reduce single-use plastic consumption, highlighting the environmental damage caused by plastic waste. He encouraged the public to return to reusable alternatives like cloth bags and copper water bottles. District Collector P. Ranjith Basha and KMC Commissioner S. Ravindra Babu also participated.
Police personnel across all districts participated in clean-up efforts around police stations. Anantapur district Collector Vinod Kumar V. stressed the importance of maintaining clean homes and offices to prevent health problems associated with stagnant water and mosquito breeding. The initiative underscored the state’s commitment to environmental protection and public health.
