**KOCHI, Kerala – March 15, 2025** – Three final-year students of the Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery, were arrested Friday morning following a police raid that uncovered nearly 2 kg of ganja within the men’s hostel. The raid, conducted based on intelligence reports suggesting ganja had been purchased for Holi celebrations, also led to the apprehension of two former students suspected of supplying the drug.
The arrested students – Adityan (Mechanical Engineering), Abhiraj (Automobile Engineering, and general secretary of the college union), and Akash (Chemical Engineering) – were allegedly involved in collecting “donations” from fellow students to fund the purchase. Akash, found with the majority of the ganja (approximately 1.9 kg), was remanded in judicial custody, while Adityan and Abhiraj, possessing smaller quantities, were granted bail. The college has suspended all three pending an inquiry.
Two former students, Aashik and Sherik, are also in custody, suspected of being the main suppliers. Police seized weighing machines and ziplock bags, suggesting the ganja was intended for sale, not just personal use. The police maintain surveillance outside the hostel.
