**Tiruchi, March 15, 2025** – A former Karur District Revenue Officer (DRO), S. Surya Prakash, has been arrested in connection with a ₹9.5 crore real estate scam, police announced today. Prakash, already in judicial custody for a previous ₹31.2 crore fraud case, was arrested on March 14th and remanded.
The latest scam involves businessman R. Palanichamy, who invested ₹9.5 crore in a purported Ooty land deal orchestrated by Prakash and his associates. The group falsely claimed the land could be quickly resold at a profit. Palanichamy registered the property in August 2023 but later sought a refund when the promised resale fell through.
Arrested alongside Prakash was Ramesh, another associate involved in the scam. Two other accused, Manjalnathan and Kanisundaram, remain at large.
This arrest follows Prakash’s earlier detention in a separate fraud case involving fake job appointments and procurement orders related to solar panel projects. Several other individuals, including a former Tamil Nadu Secretariat officer and individuals from Assam, are also implicated in that case, but some remain absconding. Police investigations into both cases are ongoing.
