**Chennai, March 15, 2025** – The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has launched a ₹20.17 crore redevelopment project for the Chetpet eco-park, aiming to enhance recreational facilities while preserving its ecological balance. The 16-acre park, inaugurated in 2017 after the rejuvenation of Chetpet Lake, currently attracts around 20,000 visitors monthly.
The six-month project will include new water sports facilities, musical fountains, bird-viewing decks, a snack bar, and improved walkways. Lakeside improvements will feature a reflexology pathway, outdoor gym, and upgraded play areas. Existing structures, including the admin block and parking, will be renovated. Sustainable water management will be incorporated through porous surfaces around the lake.
The CMDA highlighted the importance of urban greenery in mitigating pollution and the urban heat island effect. The redevelopment aims to significantly improve visitor amenities, adding features like a photo point, children’s play area, and improved restroom facilities. Project completion is contingent upon the tendering and contracting process.
