**Sikeston, MO** – A severe weather outbreak across the Heartland Friday night into Saturday morning resulted in at least seven confirmed tornadoes, prompting the cancellation of Saturday’s First Alert Action Day. While the immediate threat has subsided, scattered storms are still possible throughout Saturday.
A Tornado Emergency was declared Friday night for Fremont and Van Buren, Missouri, where two individuals were trapped in a home near Fremont, according to Van Buren Emergency Management. Tornado watches remained in effect for parts of western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and New Madrid County, Missouri, until 6 a.m. Saturday.
Following a brief reprieve Saturday morning, another round of rain and thunderstorms is expected to develop across the region, moving from southwest to northeast. The greatest risk of severe weather on Saturday will be along the eastern edge of the viewing area, particularly in northwest Tennessee and parts of western Kentucky.
Temperatures will range from the 60s in the north to the mid-70s in the far south on Saturday. Sunday is forecast to be breezy and dry, but significantly cooler, with lows near freezing and possible frost Monday morning. Temperatures will rebound mid-week, before another cold front brings cooler temperatures and a few showers later next week.
