Fri Mar 14 16:26:44 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka’s Jal Jeevan Mission Faces Delays, Quality Issues
**Bengaluru, March 14, 2025** – The Karnataka government’s Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), aimed at providing drinking water to all villages, is facing significant delays and quality control problems, according to data presented to the Legislative Council.
While the state has initiated JJM works in 26,592 villages, only 4,675 currently receive drinking water under the program. Of the ₹65,000 crore allocated for the project, ₹32,377 crore has been released, and ₹28,896 crore spent.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge attributed the delays to last year’s drought and heavy rainfall. He acknowledged concerns raised by BJP member C.T. Ravi regarding poor-quality workmanship and lack of water sources in some areas. A third-party evaluation of 1,550 villages confirmed these issues, which the minister stated are currently being addressed. However, Mr. Kharge clarified that the central government mandates identification of a water source before project commencement.
